Initially a private individual from Kabul managed the registration of the .af domain, only a few orders have been processed. In the course of the Afghan civil war, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) lost contact with this person, whereupon the registration of new domains was stopped and is possible again since 2002.
